Stacy came into our program after running away from home, punching walls, and arguing with her adoptive parents. Her family had a difficult time communicating with each other, and her Licensed Clinical Social Worker recommended Hawthorn Heights as an option. Her social worker stated that Stacy needed respite, skill building, life skills, stronger connections, and improved family relationships.

When asked what her first impression of Hawthorn Heights was, Stacy stated that it seemed like a "laid-back place." Stacy stated that while at Hawthorn, she learned that it's okay to have problems with the people you're around, but you still have to work through those problems. She stated that people have told her she looks happier since coming to Hawthorn and that the biggest challenge she overcame was learning how to talk about her feelings. Stacy states that, while she didn't realize it before Hawthorn, self-control is one of her strengths.

Stacy plans to attend college and study forensic science. As she returns home, successfully reunified with her parents, she says she is most excited to finish high school. Her father reports that her behavior has improved dramatically and that he is thankful Hawthorn made such a positive difference in their relationship.

When asked what she would like the community to know about Hawthorn Heights, Stacy shared, "The staff at Hawthorn Heights are great and will always do their best to help you in any way possible. If you come into the program with an open mind and actually want help and work on yourself, then that's what it's meant to do."

When asked what advice she would give to future residents, Stacy said, "I just went with the flow, which made it easier to feel at home. Hawthorn had great structure and fun activities that gave it a home-like feel, and the meaningful groups are designed to help with anything you want to get off your chest."
