Allie’s Story

Every young person who walks through our doors has a different story. Some stay for months, while others are only with us briefly. Regardless of how long they are here, our goal remains the same: to provide a safe, supportive environment where youth can learn, heal, and grow.
When asked about her experience at Hawthorn Heights, Allie didn't hesitate.
"Hawthorn was fabulous."
Throughout her stay, Allie says she learned valuable skills that she believes will help her long after leaving our program. The lesson that stood out to her most was learning to follow directions. She also shared that she has learned how to better manage her emotions and advocate for her own needs.
One of the challenges Allie worked hard to overcome was keeping her hands to herself. Looking back, she now considers self-restraint one of her greatest strengths. Her goals moving forward are to continue using her coping skills, avoid running away, and prove her doubters wrong by building a successful future.
When asked who made the biggest difference during her stay, Allie credited staff members Tori, Clarissa, and the other youth for helping her along the way.
Her advice to any young person entering Hawthorn Heights is simple:
"Just do what you're told. Hawthorn Heights is amazing!"
When we asked Allie to describe Hawthorn Heights in just one sentence, her answer reminded us exactly why we do what we do:
"Hawthorn Heights is the best place I have ever been."
There is no greater compliment than hearing a young person say they felt safe, supported, and cared for. Whether a resident stays with us for a few weeks or several months, every opportunity to make a positive difference matters. We are incredibly proud of Allie and can't wait to see all she accomplishes in the future.
